Text Typography - Dreamweaver

When I released this Dreamweaver typography tutorial onto YouTube I expected that most people would probably ignore it. I was right. However this website typography tutorial is probably one of the most important Dreamweaver tutorials that I have released this year.

This video tutorial contains the basics to creating a typographic website and utilizes techniques to create drop cap CSS, a pull quote using a block quote tag, font typography and text typography.

These techniques help you to create an engaging and readable web page instead of having a boring and dull piece of text with an advert next to it like most people do. The drop cap and the CSS block quote is intended to pull the reader into the content of your web page and that is why typography design is very important in web design.

What is a Drop Cap?

A drop cap is an initial or capital letter which has been enlarged and mostly sits at the start of a paragraph like this one. The drop cap CSS is very easy to create and involves floating the letter and applying padding. A drop cap can be very dramatic and you can even apply background images to increase the font typography look. Notice how the rest of the content flows around the drop cap letter.

What is a Pull Quote?

Pull quotes are often used in newspapers and magazines and are used to emphasize important areas of content

A pull quote can be a snippet of text or a quote which you would like to emphasize or which you feel to be important to the overall content of the page. Many internet marketers will use a pull quote to highlight a major benefit of a product they are offering. Pull quotes are often used in newspapers and magazines. The pull quote in the Dreamweaver tutorial download files sits inside of a block quote tag. The CSS for the block quote is then used to style an effective pull quote.

Website typography should not be ignored when designing your website. You should aim to make it a rich typographic website which will pull the readers into your great content. Be sure to use these important text typography skills in your future typography design projects.
